Barbara Ulrichsen is Of Counsel to SeidenFreed LLC. She is certified as a Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Barbara strongly believes that family law matters should be amicably resolved, if at all possible. Her philosophy is founded on her personal observations of the havoc and financial ruin hotly contested litigation can create. She believes that her clients should be well informed about the divorce process and all options available to them.
During her nearly 50 years of experience, Barbara has handled many high-profile family law matters. She has extensive experience negotiating and drafting complex settlements and has successfully tried numerous financial and custody related matters to conclusion. She also has extensive experience litigating business valuation issues. Barbara has also successfully argued family law matters before the New Jersey Appellate Division and the New Jersey Supreme Court.
She is admitted to the bar in the State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Family Practice Committee and was formerly a member of the New Jersey State Bar Family Law Executive Committee.
Barbara is qualified as a mediator under New Jersey Court Rule 1:40. She represents clients in mediations and serves as an independent mediator for court-appointed mediations and private mediations.
Barbara was included as a Super Lawyer by New Jersey Super Lawyer Magazine, and has received this recognition every year from 2005 to 2025. She was named a Top 50: Women New Jersey by Super Lawyers from 2005 to 2012. She was also included as a Best Lawyer by the Best Lawyers in America for 2024. Barbara was instrumental in the creation of and implementation of the Child Support Guidelines in New Jersey. Working with a partner from her former firm, Barbara had an instrumental role in obtaining a positive result for her clients in Crews v. Crews, 164 N.J. 11 (2000), which is a seminal New Jersey Supreme Court case on alimony modification.
Barbara graduated cum laude from Beaver College (now Acadia University) in 1971 and graduated with Honors from Rutgers School of Law-Camden in 1974. While in law school, she worked both as a law clerk for the Philadelphia firm of Wolfe Block and as a financial manager of a thoroughbred racing stable owned by Robert P. Levy, a prominent Philadelphia businessman.
She spent her early years in Keyport, New Jersey. Her father and mother both emigrated from Denmark. Her father was a well known designer of wooden boats. Her parents separated when she was 12 and she spent her teenage years living and working on various horse farms throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Barbara lives on a horse farm in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. She has been married to Joseph Rochford, a psychiatrist, since 1974. They have two adult sons, and two grandchildren. Barbara’s outside interests include riding competitive show jumpers, running her dogs in agility competitions, tennis, skiing and golfing.
